Oslo-Flam-Bergen in a day

Three years ago, my friends and I went on a scenic train and boat journey from Oslo to Flam to Bergen. This trip is definitely in my top 10 favourites as it involved fjords, waterfalls, rainbows, rivers, snow-capped mountains, tasty fresh seafood and good friends for company. Everywhere you look, you can either see all green, all blue, all white or sometimes a mixture of everything I classify as beautiful and peaceful.

It was end of May when we went, so you could probably imagine that snow is starting to melt. It was not too cold not too hot. And the flowers are almost in full bloom. To me, it was the perfect temperature for someone who grew up in a very tropical country and the perfect atmosphere for an end-of-the-busy-season trip with my friends.

I still remember how happy I was to see snow everywhere. I remember at the time, it only snowed a little bit in London and it never settled, so you could probably imagine how delighted I was to see it everywhere. You see, if you grew up in the Philippines, you’ll never see snow apart from those shown in the movies or unless you are fortunate enough to travel outside the country and experience it elsewhere.

Delighted is probably an understatement.

During the seven hour train trip from Oslo, I grabbed every opportunity to take all the pictures I wanted – at every stop (even when the train was moving!). I was really ecstatic! This might be an exaggeration for some if not all but for someone who grew up surrounded by a bit of natural beauty, that train journey was a feast for my eyes.

After the Oslo train, you would think it would be the end. But actually, that was just the first part. The Flam railway was another bit of experience that one should not miss when in Norway. I think I must have read somewhere that it’s one of the world’s most beautiful train journeys you will ever have. And to that, I don’t disagree! I’ve never been to a lot of train journeys before but I couldn’t imagine another train trip that could be more beautiful than the Flam railway. (Well, three years have passed since I went there and I have yet to find another train journey that could rival its beautiful scenery.)

The train took about an hour if I remember correctly. We passed a number of tunnels and alongside majestic waterfalls, stopped to take pictures in scenic view points and ended up in the Flam valley.

The last part of our one day all-in-one tour was the boat trip from Flam to Bergen. At this point I have already exhausted using the word beautiful in this post so I will just let you judge based on the pictures that I have taken.

Right! This is where I read if from!

(All pictures were taken with my Sony Alpha a6000. The last 11 pictures were taken in Bergen town centre.)
